January 7, 2005 SF SOS President Wade Randlett expresses his anger that City Gardeners caught slacking and stealing are still on the job:
Slacking Gardeners Still on the Job
Missed Meetings - San Francisco Examiner - 08/27/04
"Wade Randlett, president of SF SOS, a moderate group focused on quality-of-life issues such as clean streets and parks, said he'd be concerned most about missed votes, and which supervisors have outside employment though they now draw full-time salaries. 'They sold themselves as full-time workers,' Randlett said."
The Body Politic - Making the Most of Moderation - San Francisco Examiner - 08/24/04
"In District 5, Francis Somsel, Jim Siegel and Andrew Sullivan are declaring themselves the "Mod Squad" and holding campaign events together. Cute, but it would be a lot cuter if SF SOS, the quality-of-life interest group appealing to fed-up moderates and backed by city business leaders, hadn't already announced the three as guests of its District 5 Quality of Life Candidates Night on Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 1198 Fulton St. The event is being co-hosted by Plan C.
"SF SOS is a nonprofit and can't endorse candidates, but it is giving voters a strong hint in a race where they can make three choices. Tys Sniffen will also appear as a late addition."
School Board Vote for Noncitizen Parents Endorsed - San Francisco Chronicle - 08/20/04
"SFSOS formed a 'No on F' committee last week, with funding coming from the group's political action committee, according to SFSOS President Wade Randlett, who said a recent poll by the organization indicated the measure will lose.
"Measure F 'is so cynical that the forces in favor of this included illegal residents,' Randlett said. 'If you are here illegally, that you should be bestowed benefits is an affront to people who are here legally and playing by the rules.'"
Business Leaders Join Schoolyard Fight - San Francisco Business Times - 08/20/04
"Hellman and other local business people said they expect this year's Board of Education campaign to take a much higher profile than in past years. For example, SFSOS, a political advocacy group backed largely by business executives, said it is starting candidate forums with many of the 12 candidates running for the education board. In addition, business representatives said, they expect to become more involved in fund raising and helping coordinate campaigns."
Soft Money Shuffles On - San Francisco Examiner - 08/12/04
"Democratic activist Wade Randlett (President of SF SOS) is heading up the six "quality of life" political action groups along with the law firm of Jim Sutton, the campaign attorney for San Francisco's mayor and district attorney.
"Randlett said the committees will allow donors to make their voices heard without getting mired down in the scores of individual candidates on the ballot."
Mayor Gets Rx from Health CEOs - San Francisco Business Times - 07/19/04
"The dinner, held at Blue Shield's San Francisco headquarters, was part of a projected series of get-togethers designed to educate Newsom on various issues and introduce him to industry leaders. It's modeled on a similar educational effort mounted for Al Gore when he was vice president, according to Wade Randlett, president of SFSOS, who helped organize it."
Name Change? Voters May Get a Chance to Decided Candlestick's Fate - SF Examiner - 07/14/04
"Polling conducted by activist group SFSOS on the naming issue in May found strong opposition to keeping the 'Stick's name if it meant the loss of city services."
Pay Raise Falls Flat - SF Examiner - 07/13/04
SFSOS, a civic group that advocates on quality-of-life issues, had also protested the move to increase salaries. "We think the people who serve on the school board are doing it out of duty and a feeling of public service," said SFSOS' Bruce Cuthbertson.
"I don't really see how paying people $20,000 a year is going to improve the school board or turn out better candidates."
Key Role for Biz at SFUSD - SF Examiner - 07/09/04
"'I think a lot of people would say that one of the things that attracts jobs and business is the school system,' said Bruce Cuthbertson of SFSOS, a downtown civic group active in boosting public schools, but not involved in the COO search."
The Body Politic by Adriel Hampton - SF Examiner - 07/01/04
"Googlestick? Could be. The Mountain View-based Internet company is in the running for bidding rights on Candlestick Park, as is Larry Ellison's Oracle. Supervisors Matt Gonzalez and Daly are working to stop the naming-rights deal -- estimated by the Mayor's Office to be worth $3 million to city coffers -- as part of an effort to hold off corporatization of public spaces, and they need four total supervisor signatures to put the issue before voters. A May poll commissioned by the civic group SFSOS found 80 percent of voters support selling naming rights to Candlestick in order to finance Recreation and Parks programs. This is the third year in a row for a fight on the sale of naming rights, so why not put the issue to popular referendum and be done with it?"
Big Raises Urged for School Board - SF Chronicle - 07/01/04
"SFSOS, a politically moderate advocacy group founded with the help of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., also opposes the measure. 'We think the money should be spent on the classrooms and teachers, not on salaries for politicians,' said SFSOS spokesman Bruce Cuthbertson.
"He added that pegging the board members' pay to what's earned by a starting teacher would create a conflict of interest when it came time for the board to participate in salary negotiations with the teachers union."
The Body Politic by Adriel Hampton - SF Examiner - 06/24/04
"The latest proposal that has sent outraged SFSOS members' blast faxes flying into supervisor's offices is Gonzalez's bid to give School Board members annual salaries equivalent to half the starting pay of teachers. The seven board members currently get a stipend of $500 a month. The proposed Charter Amendment also drops the cap on supervisor staffing, currently set at two aides."
The Body Politic by Adriel Hampton - SF Examiner - 05/24/04
"The District 1 supervisor candidates will each speak today at an SFSOS-sponsored community forum at the Richmond Police Station, 7 to 8:30 p.m."
The Body Politic by Adriel Hampton - SF Examiner - 05/21/04
"Service employee unions came out in force at a hearing for Supervisor Sophie Maxwell's legislation that could reduce the outsourcing of city jobs. Ironically, they held up large "S.O.S." signs, the same moniker as the SF SOS interest group that had just published a newsletter asking 'Who's in the union's pocket?'"
